For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived,
serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,
not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration
and renewing of the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us abundantly through
Jesus Christ our Savior, that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Our righteousness is woefully inadequate.
Unbelievably stricken! “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was
rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” 2 Cor. 9:8

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the
righteousness of God in HimI 2 Cor. 5:21
Jesus who knew NO sin
became the sin sacrifice for us that we might obtain His righteousness...without which no man will see God.
Our Holy God demanded
a just sacrifice. “For Christ
also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh,
but quickened by the Spirit:” I Peter 3:18
