"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper
than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart." Hebrews 4:12
DISCERNING DISCIPLES
It is important in "today’s" Christian walk that we be discerning disciples. Not only followers of
truth but discerners of truth. Someone once asked me, "Do you have the gift of discernment?" Yes, I do, I have the King James
Version. The WORD of God is a discerner.
Seems everyone wants to hear from God, everybody wants a "word". If you want to hear from God you must hear
His Word. God has spoken through His Word and His Word is the discerner of the "thoughts" and intents of the heart.
Simply, your thoughts, your "thoughts from God" must line up with the already spoken Word of God. We must come into agreement
with the Word of God. It is interesting, in the above verse, that the Word of God is able to invade our entire being...spirit,
soul and body. An absolute key for genuine freedom is spiritual alignment. That is, our spirit agreeing with what God say
in His Word, our soul...mind, will, emotions, personality believing and speaking what God ’s Word says and our flesh agreeing in obedience to
the truth of God’s
Word.
There is an interesting verse of scripture written by James to believers, "Do you think that the scripture
says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusteth to envy." James 4:5. What? The spirit that dwells in us? But, if I’m
a believer, only the Holy Spirit can dwell in me...is that what you are thinking? What spirit do you suppose James is referring
to here? Our human spirit most likely, but maybe evil spirits that dwell in our soul and body. Evil spirits must be cast out,
our human spirit must be cast down. There must be agreement in our being for there to be healing and fullness of God’s
Presence.
SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY ALIGNMENT
You see, the Word gets into even the "joint and marrow" ... and the Word brings healing. Coming into agreement
with truth that God has already spoken, allows us to receive and apply the promises of the Word.
For whenever God speaks, whatever He says automatically becomes law. In His legal system alignment with truth
brings freedom. Now, the opposite is true as well. Rebellion, refusal to receive His Word as truth means to believe a lie
and the lie empowers demons. Empowered demons bring destruction, death, disease and further deception to the believer. The
job of every demon is to rob, steal, kill and destroy. The problem is that believers don ’t believe...more accurately, our belief is often
tempered with conditions.
HOW CAN WRITTEN WORDS BE ALIVE?
The Word of God is alive! It is alive and Powerful. How can that be? "In the beginning was the Word and the
Word was with God and the Word was God. All thing were made by Him and for Him and without was not anything made that was
made...and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." John 1:1-14.
The Word of God is ALIVE because Jesus is the Word. It is Powerful because Jesus is the Word! What an incredible truth!
When you speak the Word you actually speak His Presence right into your life and your situation. "Thy word is truth" . Discerning Disciples
must weigh "words" against God’s Word. It is Truth that liberates and His Word is TRUTH.
HOW CAN WRITTEN WORDS BE ALIVE?
The Word of God is ALIVE because Jesus is the Word. It is Powerful because Jesus is the Word! What an incredible
truth! When you speak the Word you actually speak His Presence right into your life and your situation. "Thy word is truth". Discerning Disciples
must weigh "words" against God’s Word. It is Truth that liberates and His Word is TRUTH.
I WONDER IF SHE KNEW
When Mary was holding the baby Jesus in her arms I wonder if she knew that she was holding the one Who was
holding all creation in His grip. Maybe she did, but I doubt that she could possibly comprehend that He was in the beginning
with God and that He was and is God. Could she have known that He spoke everything into being and that when He speaks all
of creation obeys?
I think also that we are not able to receive the magnitude of power and authority that is ours in His Name.
I believe it is a little more than simply speaking His Name, it is believing that His Name is above every name, it is living
daily, moment by moment in that amazing truth. His Word is truth. We are empowered by the truth of His Word, the Presence
of His Holy Spirit and exercising His Name in our life!
